First Response Updates
To GSLS/14-25 Team/DAAC
Hi All,
Further updates regarding First Response for you and your teams.
New requirements for the validation of external courses / qualifications used to update Modules 10A/10B Scouting First Response on Compass, you may also have had the chance to watch the HQ Webinar covering those changes but if not or for clarification please note:
- All external First Aid training used to cover Scouting First Response MUST be approved by a County First Aid Trainer – if for example paediatric CRP was not included in the training it MUST be demonstrated to a County First Aid Trainer ideally face to face, other knowledge gaps may be covered over a phone call.
- All Registered Health Care Professionals NOT routinely working in Emergence Medicine will need to provide First Aid Training certification and will need approval as above.
- All other professions where First Aid training may be included in their job will still need to provide certification and will need approval as above.
- The new Membership system will have the capacity to record the County First Aid Trainers approval but until then Compass will still only record the DLV as validator trusting they have checked with a County First Aid Trainer for approval
The County are also being asked to retrospective review External First Aid training recorded between April 2022 and August 2024 and arrange updates for the individuals affected as needed as these are identified lists will be shared with the DLVs.
- Until otherwise confirmed copies of all External Course Certificates with details of the syllabus used, including any out of County alternatives (e.g. the Hampshire options) should be sent to the firstresponse@westmerciascouts.org.uk
- Following successful recording of the validation checks Compass will be updated and the individual, their line manager and/or DC (DLV) notified, until then their First Response training cannot be considered valid.
Thanks,
