Young Leader – Dudley District Explorer Unit

Why young leaders are essential

Young Leaders are volunteers aged between 14 and 17 that support the adult leaders in all aspects of organising and running the younger sections. You will have the opportunity to plan, develop and run games, activities, and camps, to empower young people like yourselves. You will bring your viewpoint and perspective to influence section leaders and make valuable changes to each section. As a young person you will be a role model for our members, someone that can truly inspire them.

So why

Week by week, our volunteers empower thousands of young people to learn new skills, make new friends and stand on their own two feet. They’re our everyday heroes. They shape young people’s lives for the better, and find out a whole lot about themselves in the process, too.

Today, there are nearly 60,000 young people on the waiting list to join us in the UK. We’re more relevant and more needed than ever, but it’s not always easy to keep up with the demand.

I’m not a member of Scouts – but want to do this for my DoE Service.

This isn’t an issue – we are more than happy to help accommodate. Just let us know that’s the case.

How to Get involved

Have a conversation with the Section Leader and the GSL.

They will have a meeting with you and talk you through the Dudley Young Leader Registration form. The placement agreement outlines the responsibilities of all involved.

Once the Young leader placement form is completed – this will need to be submitted to the District.

Every Young leader should have a copy of their registration form. Once the form is completed email it via the “Young Leader Documents Upload”

Their OSM Record must be correct – This can either be shared with the section via osm. The Section is “Dudley District: Explorer Young Leader – Central” – Sadly having them in your own groups OSM is not sufficient.

This is essential so they can complete their young leader training and get invited to do Module A which we are hoping to run regularly. This is compulsory and must be completed within 3 months of becoming a Young Leader

Could you also look to let the 14-25 Team know as soon as someone is registered or is Leaving.

Further Training and Info

Please find all forms here, for Registering with the District as a Young Leader.

Please also complete a Young Person information form and provide that to the GSL/Section Leader – Lastly share the young persons OSM record with Dudley District: Explorer Young Leaders – Central.

You should receive confirmation of Registration, District Necker and District Explorer Name Tape at attendance of a Module A.

As part of registration you will be notified about Module A/K Sessions being run.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
