Youth Lead Appointed
Hi All,
Just wanted to share some great news in that we have just appointed Myla as District Youth Lead.
We will be having a District Leadership Team meeting in the near future to involve Myla and her plans to work with you all, as well as facilitate introductions.
Thanks,
Here is a little Bio about Myla.
I am Myla H, and I have been lucky enough to have been selected as Dudley District’s Youth Lead to help represent young people’s views at a district level over the next few years.
I have been in Scouting now for 4 years, starting as a Young Leader after the pandemic aged 17 at 1st Kingswinford Scout Group. I have though always been a part of Youth Organisations, starting in Girlguiding aged 7 at 4th Kingswinford Brownies, progressing to a Guide, Ranger, Young Leader and now an Qualified Adult Leader at Springdale Guides in Wolverhampton. So now my typical week consists of Guides on a Monday night and Scouts on a Wednesday night!
At 1st Kingswinford Scout Group I am a Leader at Scouts, helping our eldest scouts gain their Chief Scout Gold Award, through planned expeditions, teaching them to iron a shirt, creative activities such as photography and more. I enjoy taking the Scouts on camp as well as expedition every year. Since becoming an adult leader I have gained my Nights Away Permit, currently working towards my T1 Walking permit and have achieved my Wood Badge. I am also part of Dudley District Network and have enjoyed social evenings and camps with the group. Through this I was also privileged enough to have the opportunity to be selected to be part of the Service Team in London representing UK scouting at the King’s Coronation in 2023. Through activities that I run at Scouts, opportunities I have had through Network and by being able to organise events such as St George’s Day I have been also working towards my King’s Scout Award.
Outside of Scouting I have recently graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a Part I Degree as an Architectural Assistant after 3 years studying. In my spare time I enjoy walking and have recently walked Helvellyn, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr via Bristly Ridge and Snowdon. I also enjoy baking, sewing, knitting, art and gardening (especially growing vegetables).
I am looking forward to being able to bring more Youth Shaped Scouting into Dudley District, helping all young people find a voice within scouting.
